How to Transition from Winter to Spring

This is a tough time of year. We’re all sick of winter clothes, but spring is coming too slowly to shed our cold-weather gear. There is a way to start wearing your spring clothes without freezing your you-know-what off though. Here’s are some tips for how to transition from winter to spring.

  • Wear ballet flats or pumps with tights and cropped pants. Depending on your choice of palette, go for brightly colored tights or a neutral like black or navy. The key is to show some ankle.
  • If you can’t part with your boots quite yet, pair them with fun, colorful tights and shorts or a springy skirt. Just make sure the color and/or fabric aren’t too summery. Try for a medium tone (no pastels or very light colors) and a mid-weight fabric (nothing chiffon or silk).
  • If you’re not quite ready for shorts, keep your jeans, jeggings, black or navy pants and wear it with a t-shirt layered under a blazer or cardigan. Top it off with a scarf (surprise, surprise, right?). I’ll wear a colorful tank under a colorful t-shirt (say green and turquoise) under a navy blazer with a scarf to stay warm. Layers are key to dressing in a transitional season!
  • Exchange your beanie for a wool fedora. You can find some cute ones at H&M or Forever 21that are very inexpensive.
  • If you want to wear a sweater, try it with a sleeveless vest, in down or even denim if the weather permits.
  • It’s best to draw attention to one area of the body, so add a shot of color only in one spot, as I show below. I wouldn’t wear a bright tank and a pair of bright tights because the eye won’t know where to look, but a bright tank and scarf is ok because it draws the eye to the same area.
